It was another successful year for the ladies of our Scarborough Women of Philanthropy (SWOP) Council. With more than 400 guests and 25 vendors in attendance, the fifth-annual Sip, Shop and Celebrate Women celebration raised more than $65,000 net for Scarborough Health Network (SHN). The event took place on November 8 at the Guild Inn Estate, with the funds used to support the creation of a new breast centre at SHN’s General hospital.
“What I truly love about tonight’s event is the passion that exists in this room for transforming health care in Scarborough, and specifically for transforming the patient experience for women,” shared Elizabeth Buller, SHN’s President and CEO. “This new breast centre will build on our existing leadership in breast care and treatment, with physicians such as Dr. Sarah Wong – a renowned Canadian plastic and cosmetic surgeon spearheading our breast reconstruction team – setting new standards in quality, innovation and excellence each and every day.”
The new Breast Centre – housed within the forthcoming Medical Imaging and Vascular Centre at our General hospital – will consolidate critical services like mammography and ultrasound, uniting SHN’s expertise in a single location and drastically enhancing how patients access efficient and innovative breast care and treatments.
“We are thrilled to see how much the Sip, Shop event has grown in such a short time,” says Melanie Warren, Co-Chair, Scarborough Women of Philanthropy (SWOP) Council. “This support is a testament to how important the work of Scarborough Health Network is to our community. I know I speak for all the members of SWOP when I say how rewarding it is to have a hand in shaping the future of care for Scarborough.”
Guests were joined by several brave members of the Toronto Fire and Police Services, who also helped our volunteers sell tickets for the evening’s 50/50 raffle. The Toronto Professional Fire Fighters’ Association – Local 3888 also did their part for the cause, presenting SHN Foundation with a cheque for $1,000 to close out the evening’s festivities.
