Michele Varela is a senior development professional with over eighteen years of experience in fundraising and resource development. Her well-rounded background includes non-profit management, capital campaigns, financial management, planned giving, stewardship and annual fund programs.
Michele started her career with the United Way of Greater Toronto before arriving at The Scarborough Hospital Foundation. She also worked at other health care organizations such as The Canadian Diabetes Association, West Park Healthcare Centre and Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation.
Michele has an excellent track record of recruiting, training and managing all levels of volunteers and has been involved in the planning and execution of six capital/major campaigns ranging from $2 million to $60 million.
Michele has provided strong and effective leadership and mentoring to staff and worked with key non-profit organization stakeholders, board members, senior staff and physicians to develop and build strong relationships that support the achievements of an organization’s mission and goals.
As a professional fundraiser, Michele’s key accountabilities have been to lead in the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans, policies and programs. She understands and embraces the concept of accountability to deliver results.
As a forward thinking business professional, she ensures timely and accurate reporting and risk management oversight. As a campaign leader, she ambitiously achieves her goals by working closely with campaign volunteers.
Michele lives in Newmarket with her husband, son Nicholas and daughter Alexis. She spends her home time as a hockey, baseball, swimming, basketball and volleyball Mom. She also enjoys running and is an ambitious golfer.

Guy Bonnell, a successful sponsorship and event marketer, established a career with corporate broadcast and integrated multi-media networks such as CTV-globemedia, The Sports Network (TSN) and Corus Entertainment.
Guy’s career highlights include responsibilities as Director of Sports Sales and Marketing with CTV Television, having worked on world class properties such as Canadian and International figure skating Championships, the Bell Canadian Open, Indy 500, Major League Baseball and the ’88, ’92 and ’94 Olympic Games.
At TSN, he worked as the VP, Sales and Event Sponsorship and led the sales and sponsorship team to meet and exceed annual targets on properties, such as World Cup Soccer 1998 and 2002, World Junior Hockey Championships and PGA and Major Golf properties, such as The Masters, British Open, US Open and PGA Championship.
At Corus Entertainment, Guy worked as the Director of Sports Sales and Marketing, responsible for properties such as Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey and Toronto Argonaut Football.
Recently, he worked with Lang Marketing Network as VP, Partnerships, representing properties such as the Royal Conservatory of Music, YMCA Canada, We to Me Foundation and The Smart Cookies.
Guy’s philanthropic achievements include 14 years at Renascent Foundation as a Member of the Board and Chair of Events. Having successfully raised over $1.2 million for the Renascent Recovery Shot Golf Tournament, and Committee Member of the Family Capital Campaign raising $6.5 million.
In 2006, Guy was awarded the prestigious “Paul Mulvihill Humanitarian Heart Award”, recognized within the Advertising Media industry for outstanding fundraising and community giving.
