COVID-19 Testing and Pop-Up Assessment Centres
SHN will soon be partnering with the University of Toronto - Scarborough Campus (UTSC) and Centre for Immigrant and Community Services (CICS) to provide COVID-19 testing at new, indoor Assessment Centres locations for the upcoming winter months. We will be moving our Centres from the trailers at our hospitals to warmer indoor facilities at neighbouring UTSC and CICS venues.
COVID-19 testing at the new indoor Assessment Centres will continue to be by appointment only, and for those who are eligible — including anyone with COVID-19 symptoms, or who have been exposed to a known case, instructed by Public Health or notified by the COVID Alert app, or require a test for travel purposes.
We will begin scheduling COVID-19 testing at the University of Toronto – Scarborough Campus
(Highland Hall) at 1265 Military Trail on Tuesday, December 1. An opening date for our CICS location will be announced shortly
In addition to testing taking place at our hospitals, we have also opened up several COVID-19 Pop-Up Assessment Centres around Scarborough over the past few months to increase our community's access to testing. These Centres have allowed our community members to benefit from walk-in COVID-19 testing without any appointments. Additional Pop-Up Assessment Centres are also being planned, and we will share those dates once available.
Vital Government Support at SHN
The Ontario Government has announced an investment of $11.8 million at SHN to create up to 45 hospital beds and 8 critical care beds to alleviate hospital capacity pressures and reduce wait times. This includes 20 beds at the SHN Birchmount hospital and 25 beds at the SHN Centenary hospital.
Updated Visitor Policy
To ensure a safe environment for everyone at our hospitals, we have increased the restrictions for our Visitor Policy. Essential Visitors/Care Partners are still permitted in the hospital, but patients can only designate one visitor (unless otherwise stated). As things change, SHN is committed to continuously reviewing feedback from families and staff, and will collaborate with leaders and patient and family advisors to revise the Visitor Policy.
SHN Foundation Remains Open
The Foundation team is still hard at work to ensure that we continue supporting our hospitals' high-priority needs during this time. Our team is working remotely and is available weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to answer any questions you may have about your valued support for our hospitals. Please feel free to reach out by email at email@example.com or by phone at 416-431-8130.
As our courageous doctors, nurses, clinical staff, and frontline workers continue to care for our patients and families, we ask you to consider supporting our hospitals.
Your generosity this year has already allowed us to purchase vital equipment and resources that our hospitals need in the fight against COVID-19. By donating to our area of greatest need, you will help ensure that our frontline heroes continue to access the necessary tools to combat the second wave and keep our Scarborough community safe.
We recognize that these past few weeks have brought uncertainty and stressful moments. Rest assured that SHN monitors the situation closely to ensure that you have the latest information to help keep you and your family safe and healthy.
Thank you for your support of Scarborough Health Network.
We could not do this without you.
